This area of the Tarn is characterized by a diversity of landscapes. The hillside vineyards of the Gaillac wine appellation, the dramatic gorges of the Aveyron river, the forests and the many ancient hill-top bastide villages dating back to the 13th century. Local activities in the area include golf, tennis, riding, canoeing, cycling, fishing, walking and rock-climbing. The forests, gorges, rivers and the hills of the countryside provide for stunning walks. Gaillac is the centre of the local wine region so there are literally dozens of vineyards to discover.


Immediately adjacent to Cordes is the pretty village of Les Cabannes, with a few shops and a café/bar. Boules is played in the village centre.


St Antonin-noble-val is approximately 20 minutes drive and has a very lively and bustling market on Sundays. The market is very popular and people come to it from miles around. St Antonin is where the film "Charlotte Grey" was filmed and some of the local people acted as extras.

The attractive city of Albi (click for more info) is approximately 20 minutes drive.Toulouse (click for photo) is approx 1 hours drive. It spans both banks of the Canal du Midi and of the Garonne and is a colourful, lively festive City with a wealth of stunning architecture, Churches, squares, restaurants, museums and interesting places to visit. A city tour by a road train is a good way to get an overview. For space enthusiasts the Cité de l'Espace and the Planetarium are also famous places to visit.
